Support our music school and help us continue spreading the joy of music to children and adults in Danderyd.
Nordenfeltska Music School is a non-profit association, led by a voluntary board, where operations are primarily funded by student fees and a small part through operational grants from Danderyd municipality. The school has a part-time position for the school director, while all our teachers are hired on a consulting basis, where the hours depend entirely on the number of students each term.
We have no private owners or stakeholders who profit from our operations; instead, all our revenues go directly back into the school and the students' education.
In 2008, we moved into premises in the center of Stocksund, which we had renovated together with the municipality. After 17 years, we were unfortunately forced to leave those premises in 2024. The reason was a sharp rent increase by the property owner, who wanted to increase the rent by a massive 300% for the basement space and 100% for the upper floor.
At the same time, due to the prevailing recession and Danderyd municipality's financial challenges, the municipality announced that they could no longer continue providing the facilities subsidy we had received since 2008. Nordenfeltska has always had a good and close collaboration with the municipality and the local Kulturskola. However, as we are a non-profit music school, the financial burden became too great. This forced us to find new premises, and with the municipality's help, we moved to the East Wing of Djursholm Castle, where we now run our school.
We find ourselves in a challenging time. Music schools all over Sweden are struggling with declining student numbers and cut cultural budgets, and we are unfortunately no exception. But we know that with your help, we can continue to be a place where children and adults alike have the opportunity to develop through music.
Every contribution – big or small – makes a real difference to the school and our ability to maintain high pedagogical quality.
